MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD 3 April 2021
SUBJECT: Meeting Minutes for 3 March 2021 – Via Zoom.
Meeting called to order at 1730 hours by Rawlings AFA Chapter President Roman Hund.
1. Members/guests present (15): Julie Eszlinger-Jensen, Janelle Gates, George Harris, Roman Hund, Dan Murphy, David Pohlen, Larry Sagstetter, Tom Schellinger, Kevin Sliwinski, Tom Theis, Lloyd Ward, Sarah Wise, Todd Hamlin, Lt Col Mike Fiandt, and Lt Col Jon Carter.
REPORTS
2. Meeting minutes for Feb 2021 were read/summarized by David Pohlen and were approved by the membership.
3. Treasurer – Sarah Wise
- Savings balance: $24,017.44 (includes $10,297.22 from gaming closeout).
- Checking balance: $13,630.77.
- No income to report.
- Expenditures: $17.99 to Larry Sagstetter for website renewal.
- Sarah was notified that UVLC cut their dues to $50 for 2021 because COVID restrictions on meetings. UVLC has offered to refund $50 extra back to us or apply it to next years dues. The Rawlings membership agree to have ours applied to next years dues.
4. Awards Banquet
- Requests went out last month for award selections from units. Some have already been returned.
- Full Award’s Banquet this spring is cancelled and presentations of awards will likely take place in several venues/formats for this year.
- We will look at an event at Military Appreciation Day at the state fair or another event around the Air Force birthday. Also will consider CAP presentations during their virtual Wing Conference.
5. Aerospace Education – Larry Sagstetter
- CyberPatriot and StellarXplorers had many MN awardees. Several MN CAP units received Platinum, Gold , and Silver awards. Special congratulations to Hutchinson Composit Squadron who won 1st place Platinum award in CyberPatriot. Also, there is an Anoka team that has qualified for StellerXplorers semifinals. CAP has sent letters to MN representatives and senators regarding the awardees to keep our congressman aware of what is going on in their district in these programs.
6. Membership – Roman Hund
- Welcome emails were sent to 36 individuals that took the 3-year holiday membership offer.
7. Civil Air Patrol – Kevin Sliwinski
- MN CAP is scheduling and holding meetings with MN US Congressman to discuss CAP needs.
8. Legislative Update
- Vet Day on the Hill planned for April 10th/11th.
NEW BUSINESS, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND PRESENTATIONS
9. Tom Schellinger announced that MN Hall of Fame will be inducting Tuskegee Airman Harold Brown. They are hoping to hold an induction dinner in October at the Bloomington Doubletree Hotel.
10. Tom Schellinger also announced that they were currently planning to hold 3 one-day ACE camps this year. More details to be worked out.
11. Roman mentioned that AFA held a virtual Air Warfare Symposium on 24-26 Feb, 2021. Videos of presentations can be found at the AFA.org website.
12. The AFA 2021 National Convention will take place 18-19 September, 2021 at National Harbor, MD. Roman asked for names of individuals interested in being delegates for our chapter.
13. Our guest speakers were Lt Col Mike Fiandt, AFROTC Det 410/CC, and Lt Col Jon Carter, AFROTC Det 415/CC. Both commanders gave a great update on there programs and how they have adapted during COVID. They have had some successes and some challenges during this last year. AFROTC has started training officers for commission into the US Space Force. Their presentations were greatly appreciated by the membership.
14. Next meeting is scheduled for 4/6/2021 at 1730. It will likely be a virtual meeting, but any changes will be announced closer to the meeting date. Speaker TBD.
